One Account Sent US$400 Million, 54% of JPMorgan's Tokenized Money Fund, for Redemption in a Day
JPMorgan built JLTXX, a Treasury money market fund on Ethereum, to support stablecoin issuers. Between October 20 and 21 one unlabelled account sent US$400 million of it, 53.9% of the fund, to the fund's redemption address. Before the move that account held 92.7% of JLTXX.
- Between 15:41 UTC on October 20 and 14:53 UTC on October 21, 2026, one account sent US$400 million of JPMorgan's JLTXX to the fund's redemption address, 53.9% of the 741.76 million shares outstanding. see data →
- Before the transfers, that account held 687.41 million JLTXX, 92.7% of the fund. Two other accounts hold more than US$1 million: 51.50 million and 2.85 million.
- At 20:43 UTC on October 21, JLTXX shares not sent for redemption totalled US$341.8 million, against US$628.5 million of net assets in the fund's September 30 SEC filing.
- JLTXX reported net assets of US$628,484,934.78 for September 30 in its N-MFP3 filing, equal to the supply rebuilt from its onchain mints and burns.
- JLTXX reported at least 99.99% of its assets in daily liquid assets on every business day of September 2026, against the SEC's 25% minimum, so a one-day redemption of more than half the fund does not strain it.
- WisdomTree's WTGXX fell 30.4% on Ethereum, from US$1.21 billion to US$843.26 million, between October 13 and October 20, 2026, on two US$200 million burns from a single address.
JPMorgan Asset Management built its second tokenized money market fund, JLTXX, to support stablecoin issuers. Onchain, one account held 92.7% of it on October 20. Between the afternoon of October 20 and the afternoon of October 21, that account sent US$400 million to the fund's redemption address, 53.9% of the shares outstanding.
JPMorgan built JLTXX to support stablecoin issuers
JLTXX launched on public Ethereum on May 13, 2026. It invests only in US Treasury securities and overnight repurchase agreements backed by them, and JPMorgan describes it as designed to support stablecoin issuers under the GENIUS Act. Qualified investors subscribe through the bank's Morgan Money platform. Each share is held as a token at US$1.00, so the token supply is the fund's size: its September 30 filing reported net assets of US$628,484,934.78, the same figure the onchain mints and burns produce for that date.
The GENIUS Act lets a dollar stablecoin hold its reserves in a short list of assets, including cash, short-dated Treasury bills, overnight repurchase agreements and money market funds that invest in them. That has produced a new category of fund aimed at stablecoin issuers. Fidelity, State Street, BNY, Goldman Sachs and BlackRock have launched funds for that market, and Fidelity's prospectus for its version says its shares are expected to be held primarily by one or more stablecoin issuers. A small number of very large holders is the design of these funds, not a flaw in them. What a tokenized fund adds is that the holder base, and every move it makes, is public.
The fund is built to pay out in a day
Redemptions follow one route. A holder sends shares to a single address, and the shares are burned from it, usually the next morning. All 23 JLTXX burns since July 28, totalling US$582.22 million, were made from that address. On October 20 at 15:41 UTC the account sent US$200 million there; it was burned at 02:31 UTC on October 21. At 14:53 UTC on October 21 the same account sent a second US$200 million, which was awaiting burn at 20:43 UTC.
A redemption of more than half the fund in a day would strain most money funds. SEC rules require at least 25% of a money market fund's assets in daily liquid assets and 50% in weekly liquid assets. JLTXX reported at least 99.99% in daily liquid assets on every business day in its September filing, with a weighted average maturity of 14 days. At least 99.99% of its portfolio could be turned into cash within one business day, which is what a fund serving a few large holders needs. The redemption says nothing about the fund's soundness; it shows how fast its size can change.

JLTXX net assets and shares (US$1.00 each)
JLTXX reported US$628.5M of net assets at September 30. On October 20 it had US$741.8M of shares; after one account sent US$400M for redemption, US$341.8M remained outside the redemption address.
The same account sent US$250 million for redemption on September 25, as tokenized Treasury funds shrank by US$1.29 billion between August 31 and September 25, and subscribed US$190.9 million between September 30 and October 8. Since September 25 it has sent US$650 million for redemption. Two other accounts hold more than US$1 million each: 51.50 million and 2.85 million shares. The account still holds 287.46 million shares, 84.1% of those not sent for redemption.
WisdomTree's fund shrank the same way this week
JLTXX is not the only tokenized money fund whose size moved on a few transactions this month. WisdomTree's WTGXX, another US$1.00-share government money fund, had US$1.21 billion of shares on Ethereum at 23:04 UTC on October 13 and US$843.26 million at 23:03 UTC on October 20, a fall of 30.4%. Two burns of US$200 million each, on October 15 and October 19, both from a single address, more than account for the fall, net of new shares issued in between; another US$100 million was burned on October 21. Spiko's euro T-bill fund lost 19.5% of its shares in a single redemption on October 19. The 30 tokenized Treasury funds OnChain Benchmark measures held about US$14.2 billion on October 20, so JLTXX's US$400 million alone is 2.8% of the category.
What the chain does not show
The redeeming account is unlabelled, and it has received only JLTXX onchain, so the redemption proceeds were paid offchain. It could be a single investor, an omnibus account that holds shares for several clients of the Morgan Money platform, or capital connected to JPMorgan itself; the record does not distinguish them. The move came a day after JPMorgan said it would make its JPM Coin deposit token available on Ethereum for institutional clients. No JPM Coin moved to the account, and the onchain record does not connect the two events or show why the account redeemed.
Why it matters
Tokenized fund sizes are widely read as adoption. For the funds built for stablecoin reserves, size measures something narrower: the cash decisions of a few balance sheets. JLTXX reported US$628.5 million at the end of September; after this week's transfers, US$341.8 million of shares remain outside the redemption address. JLTXX is among the tokenized government money funds that cut their maturities well below conventional funds by August 31, and its liquidity let it absorb the move without strain. For a fund with one anchor holder, the headline size measures that holder's decisions, not the product's adoption.
That changes what readers of these numbers should ask. A stablecoin issuer choosing where to keep reserves can now see each candidate fund's holder base, not only its assets, and an analyst counting tokenized Treasuries can see when a category total moves on one account rather than on broad demand. JLTXX has three holders of more than US$1 million, and one of them has sent US$650 million for redemption in four weeks. The Federal Reserve meets on October 27 and 28. The open question is whether funds like JLTXX draw a broader set of holders as stablecoin issuers choose their reserve managers, or remain vehicles for one large account at a time.

OnChain Benchmark methodology · onchainbenchmark.com/methodology- Is it unusual for one account to hold most of a stablecoin-reserve money fund?
- No. Funds built for stablecoin reserves are designed for a few large holders; Fidelity's prospectus for its GENIUS-aligned fund expects its shares to be held primarily by one or more stablecoin issuers. What is new is that a tokenized fund's holder base and redemptions are public.
- How much of JPMorgan's JLTXX was redeemed on October 20 and 21, 2026?
- One account sent US$400 million to the fund's redemption address in two US$200 million transfers within 24 hours, 53.9% of the 741.76 million shares outstanding. The first US$200 million was burned on October 21; the second was awaiting burn at 20:43 UTC that day.
- Who holds JLTXX?
- Three accounts hold more than US$1 million. Before October 20 one unlabelled account held 92.7% of the fund. It still holds 287.46 million shares, 84.1% of those not sent for redemption.
- Is the redemption linked to JPM Coin on Ethereum?
- The onchain record does not show a link. The redeeming account has received only JLTXX onchain, so proceeds were paid offchain, and no JPM Coin moved to it.
